Sal Guerrero Receives Inaugural Franklin D. Roosevelt Award

Recognition from America’s Credit Unions Honors Dedication to Advocacy and Engagement

Salvador GuerreroLIVE OAK, Texas (Sept. 10, 2025) — Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union’s Salvador “Sal” Guerrero has received the inaugural Franklin D. Roosevelt Award by America’s Credit Unions.

The award recognizes Guerrero’s unwavering commitment to advancing the credit union movement, leadership in grassroots efforts and consistent engagement with policymakers. America’s Credit Unions Head of Grassroots and State Outreach Andy Dennis said the award is a testament to the passion and perseverance Sal brings to the shared mission of credit unions.

“The award’s namesake, President Roosevelt, signed the Federal Credit Union Act into law in 1934 — codifying our movement and allowing credit unions to bring the ‘People Helping People’ philosophy to even more communities across the country,” Dennis said. “The award recognizes [Sal’s] work with RBFCU and the holistic approach to advocacy over the past year.”

As RBFCU’s Vice President of Corporate Communications and Public Relations, Guerrero has played a critical role in championing credit unions and the benefits they provide to members and communities.

Guerrero was instrumental in developing RBFCU’s Political Action Committee and has since become a leading credit union industry advocate in governmental affairs, serving as a Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) board member and as a member of the America’s Credit Unions Professional Advocacy and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) committees.

At the state level, Guerrero is instrumental in shaping policies that benefit the credit union sector as Vice Chair for the Cornerstone Credit Union Texas Legislative Committee and a Texas Cornerstone Credit Union League PAC board member.

RBFCU Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer Sonya McDonald said Guerrero has a passion for legislative affairs and knows the impact our Congressional leaders can have on our credit union.

“He has a unique ability to build relationships with not only the Congressmen/women, but also their staff, who often provide the perspective needed to really understand credit union issues,” McDonald said. “I am so proud that ACU has recognized all the work Sal has put into cultivating those relationships. This award is so well deserved.”

RBFCU Marketing and Business Development Senior Vice President Blake Lyons said Guerrero’s diligent work at the local, state and federal level has truly paid off.

“We are incredibly proud of his achievements, and we look forward to his continued success on behalf of credit unions and their members,” Lyons said.
