RBFCU Statement on Current Events

LIVE OAK, Texas (June 10, 2020) — The credit union movement was built on providing service to members of modest means, people who couldn’t get banking services elsewhere. Our industry’s history demands we provide fair and equitable help to members — no matter their racial background. As the nation and the world looks with horror at the killing of George Floyd and the unjust treatment of those who came before him, we are taking a deep look at ourselves to find out how we can do the right thing and define what that means for us moving forward.

To be specific, and as a start, we will enroll all employees in multi-cultural training so employees understand how different backgrounds, ways of communication and actions matter. In addition, we will be forming a Diversity Advisory Council to identify ways we can continue bringing diversity to our employee base. As we begin this dialogue with employees and members, there may be other avenues identified. We believe the path to a better world starts with having difficult conversations with open and honest dialogue, acknowledging our diverse community, listening to understand, and making meaningful changes.

Our work is only beginning but we are confident we will see progress in the months and years to come. RBFCU will continue to do the right thing by our membership and the communities we serve.
