RBFCU Hosts Military Transitioning Event

LIVE OAK, Texas (July 30, 2018) — RBFCU was the proud host of the July 26 gathering of the Centurion Military Alliance Mega Warrior Transition Readiness Workshop. With more than 175 attendees that included armed-service members, veterans and spouses, CMA demonstrated for the sixth year that it is a successful and critical program for our military community.

CMA Chief Operating Officer Chaunte’ Myers explained the organization’s aim is to prepare our military-affiliated community with a means of transitioning to civilian life that includes additional support and resources to get everyone on the right track to employment. The workshop was supported by almost 100 volunteers and 17 corporate sponsors. Participants came from throughout the region. One bus from Fort Hood near Killeen transported several service personnel for the one-day event.

Attendees were greeted by RBFCU President and Chief Executive Officer Christopher W. O’Connor. He recalled back to his service in the Air Force and compared the basic training he received to the “Back to Basics” training CMA attendees would gain during the day.

“I knew the direction I was headed with military service after basic training, and I like the direction that CMA has everyone going with this program,” Mr. O’Connor said. “We’re honored that we have this relationship with CMA, and with everyone transitioning into life after military service. We look forward to several good years to come for everyone involved.”

RBFCU’s Senior Vice President of Credit Union Service Organizations Ed Bronnenberg was one of the featured speakers. Mr. Bronnenberg delivered instruction and advice involving financial literacy, which is one of the pillars of the CMA program.

Other speakers included UTSA Director of Career Services Audrey Magnuson and Michael Quinn, director of Workforce Management and Veteran Programs with Alexandria, Va.-based government contractor Prosphere.

The program also allowed participation in mock interviews, résumé reviews, networking and tips for salary negotiations.

In addition to RBFCU, other sponsors of the workshop were Alamo Colleges, American Military University, Conco,  Fastport, Grand Canyon University, Halliburton, Microsoft, Price Waterhouse Coopers, Project Quest, Onward To Opportunity, Robert Half, Texas State University, Trident University, USO, UTSA and Veterans Land Board.
