RBFCU Helps Raise Elder Abuse Awareness on KSAT

LIVE OAK, Texas (June 14, 2024) — In recognition of Elder Abuse Awareness Month, RBFCU partnered with KSAT and Adult Protective Services (APS) to shed light on the importance of recognizing the signs of elder abuse and how to report it. RBFCU’s AVP-Enterprise Fraud Alex Aguillen sat down with APS representatives to discuss the wide range of abuses that our elderly community may encounter on KSAT.

In 2023, Bexar County investigated more than 3,000 cases of elder abuse. Elder abuse takes form in physical, psychological, emotional, sexual and financial mistreatment. As a trusted financial institution in our communities, we are committed to helping combat financial exploitation.

RBFCU’s AVP-Enterprise Fraud Alex Aguillen sat down with APS representatives to discuss the wide range of abuses that our elderly community may encounter. Alex weighed in on the different types of financial exploitation, warning signs to look out for and steps you can take to help someone you suspect is being financially abused.

RBFCU provides information on elder financial exploitation and how to identify the signs and also has teams that respond when fraud issues involving our senior members are detected.

The credit union’s partnership with KSAT Community is another outreach avenue to our members and the public, in this case one where we can help educate the community about how to help our more vulnerable neighbors and combat fraud.
