RBFCU to Return $5 Million to Consumers

LIVE OAK, Texas – While the economy continues to slowly recover from the effects of the recession, the South Central Texas region is receiving a $5 million financial kickstart in the form of debit rewards.

Freedom Check Card-carrying members of Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union will begin receiving their annual rewards checks this week. The rewards to be distributed were earned during the 2010 calendar year; credit union members earned 10 cents each time they used their fee-free RBFCU debit card to make a purchase.

"Every day, we read about more and more financial institutions getting rid of free checking, or taxing consumers with additional fees," said Sonya McDonald, senior vice president of market development. "Instead of charging our members to use our services, we're giving money back to members as a thank you for their loyalty. In turn, they can use their Freedom Check Card rewards to stimulate the local economy."

This year's $5 million in debit card rewards is the largest annual reward amount RBFCU has paid to date. Since the inception of the program, the credit union's Freedom Check Card program has given $15 million back to the community.
