Credit Union News

LIVE OAK, Texas – New Braunfels resident Megg Chalupa had no idea that her regular trip to her local credit union branch would turn into a much bigger cross-country expedition.

When Chalupa visited the Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union Oak Run branch in New Braunfels, she purchased a ticket for the Credit Unions for Kids Weekend Getaway Raffle. Chalupa purchased the ticket because of the Credit Unions For Kids program's affiliation with the Christus Santa Rosa Children's Hospital; however, she received a huge surprise when she was announced as the raffle winner in early February.

Chalupa won two Southwest Airlines tickets, a two-night vacation stay in San Francisco and a $500 MasterCard gift card. On top of winning, Chalupa felt doubly excited regarding the cause that the raffle benefited. "I felt blessed that the funds went to Christus Santa Rosa because the hospital has meant a lot to our family and holds a very special place in my heart," Chalupa said. "To win this contest that benefits Christus Santa Rosa was a beautiful thing."

The raffle in which Chalupa participated generated more than $15,000 for Credit Unions for Kids from RBFCU and other credit union locations throughout the greater San Antonio area. "We were very excited that the raffle winner was selected from our branch," said RBFCU Oak Run manager Paula DeLaCerda. "Our employees work year-round to raise money for Christus Santa Rosa, so they really enjoyed seeing a loyal member like Mrs. Chalupa receive the prize."
