RBFCU Awards Largest Debit Card Cash Back in Program History

LIVE OAK, Texas - During Random Acts of Kindness week, thousands of local credit union members received a Random Act of Payment, in the form of debit card rewards. Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union rewarded its members with more than $8 million in cash back based on Freedom Check Card usage.

The rewards were earned by members across South Central Texas a dime at a time. Members received 10 cents cash back on every purchase made with their cards and those rewards were accumulated throughout 2013. The rewards were provided to members in tandem with the credit union's Random Acts of Kindness week, during which RBFCU provided donations, gifts and support to heroes and Wounded Warriors, charitable organizations, and friends and neighbors throughout the South Central Texas community.

“We know the importance of giving back to our community,” said Sonya McDonald, senior vice president of planning and market development for RBFCU. “In addition to giving cash back rewards to members, we also wanted to take advantage of this opportunity to celebrate with gifts to partners all across our South Central Texas service area.”

The use and popularity of the Really Free Checking product has grown, as free checking accounts have become more difficult to find at other financial institutions. Including this year's record-breaking $8 million in member rewards, the credit union has given back almost $40 million in debit card cash back since the program's 2007 inception.
